Angelik Caruana the man who had claimed to have apparitions of Our Lady, said in a recorded interview this evening that he will obey the Church and not hold further meetings at Borg In-Nadur.

The Church said on Saturday that the origin of the alleged apparitions, messages and phenomena associated with Anġelik Caruana at Borġ in-Nadur was not divine or supernatural.

Mr Caruana, father of four and a receptionist at a home for the elderly in Floriana, first made headlines in 2006. He had since reported a series of visions of the Virgin Mary. Each month, he delivered monthly messages to the public at the same location.

He claimed that an inexpensive statue of the Virgin bought by his wife, started weeping tears of blood and oozing a large quantity of oil.

In comments to Mhux Ghax Jimputani on Net TV Mr Caruana said he was shocked by the Church’s statement but he would obey the Church and bow his head to it.

He insisted that he had not been imagining.

Asked if he had had further apparitions, he said he could not stop Our Lady and he had had apparitions, but he would no longer go to Borg In-Nadur.

He said that people had a right to believe or not believe him. He urged those who believed him to obey the Church and not to act against it.

Angelik’s wife, Catherine, said the Church’s decision was about the apparitions, not about the person.

The church had spoken, the people had spoken, and she believed that She (Our Lady) would have her say, she said.

She said she was somewhat hurt by the Church’s decision but the family had peace in its hearts and would respect the Church's decision.

What had been going on for 10 years could not have been made-up, she insisted. It hurt, she said, when their children were bullied.

She said the statue of Our Lady which the family keeps at home had continued to ooze oil and ‘salt’.
