Another busy day in the local transfer market has seen the completion of a number of deals for a host of BOV Premier League clubs.

Birkirkara maintained their recruitment drive with the signing of Serbian Boris Milekic.

Milekic, 27, last played for Serbian club Sloboda Uzice. The defender is the fourth foreigner to sign for Birkirkara in the last two weeks, joining Chilean midfielder Edison Bilbao Zarate, Croatian midfielder Mislav Andelkovic and goalkeeper Miroslav Kopric, also from Croatia.

Milekic’s signing was confirmed by Michael Valenzia, the Birkirkara team manager who added that the club were now looking to bring in a foreign winger and striker.

According to Valenzia, Birkir-kara have two candidates for each of the two positions that need to be strengthened.

Quizzed about Rowen Muscat’s situation, Valenzia said: “Rowen Muscat is recovering from bronchitis and the plan is for him to return to Italy early next week.”

The Malta midfielder was expected to complete his loan move to Serie B club Ascoli Picchio last week but the move failed to materialise as Muscat was unwell.

His return to Malta fuelled speculation that his proposed switch to Ascoli may have fallen through but Birkirkara remain hopeful that the Italian side will revive the deal once Muscat gets the medical go-ahead to resume training.

Meanwhile, after finalising a deal with St Andrew’s for the transfer of up-and-coming midfielder Matthew Guillaumier, Birkirkara have approached Sliema Wanderers for Alex Muscat.

The experienced wing-back is now Birkirkara’s leading transfer target but, although initial talks between the two clubs have already taken place, it is understood that Sliema Wanderers FC president Keith Perry is reluctant to lose his team captain.

For their part, Birkirkara have no intention of parting with Malta international Joseph Zerafa who is courted by Floriana.

The Greens are in the market for a left-back after Jurgen Pisani had cruciate surgery in Italy and Zerafa has been identified as a target.

However, the Stripes are determined to hold on to the 27-year-old who was also attracting interest from Balzan.

Balzan continued to bolster their squad yesterday with the capture of goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic, from Montenegro.

Oliver Spiteri, the Balzan coach, had made the signing of an experienced goalkeeper a priority as Italian Valerio Senatore, who turned out for Floriana last season, has not made the desired impact.

Janjusevic, 29, was on the books of FK Sutjeska Niksic and has one cap for Montenegro.

Nigerian Mensha heads to Mosta

Balzan have terminated the contract of Nigerian forward Godwin Mensha who had joined the club last summer.

Mensha was deemed surplus to requirements at Balzan following the arrival of Brazilian Alan Da Silva Souza who marked his debut with a goal in the 4-1 victory over Mosta last Saturday.

Mensha didn’t have to wait long to find another club as the 26-year-old yesterday moved to Mosta who confirmed the deal on their facebook page.

Reports have emerged this week that Italian club Livorno are lining up a bid for Balzan and Malta striker Alfred Effiong.

Although Balzan have not received a formal approach for Effiong, sources told Times of Malta that Livorno officials have spoken to their Maltese contacts about their interest in the Nigeria-born striker.

Elsewhere, Floriana have signed young goalkeeper Matthew Grech who already had spells with Senglea Athletic and San Ġwann among others.

Floriana were keen to bring in a goalkeeper as cover for Matthew Calleja Cremona who, having just recovered from an operation on a fractured jaw, will miss Sunday’s encounter with Old Firm rivals Sliema Wanderers following his red card in last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Tarxien Rainbows.

The Greens, led by Italian president Riccardo Gaucci, have also shown an interest in Sliema ħ striker Michael Mifsud but no agreement has been reached so far.

St Andrew’s target keeper Cini

St Andrew’s have set their sights on young goalkeeper Yenz Cini after reportedly parting ways with Kris Calleja.

The Saints are trying to strengthen their squad as they look to reverse their dismal run in the Premier League after failing to collect a point in 17 games.

Cini, who is on the books of Mosta, is a target for the Saints who have also been linked with a move for the experienced Manuel Bartolo, Valletta’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Sliema in talks with potential investors

Sliema Wanderers have held talks with a group of potential investors who are exploring the possibility of linking up with a Maltese Premier League club.

Initial discussions, which took place earlier this week, have been described as encouraging by insiders but Sliema Wanderers are treading with caution after their bitter experience last summer.

The Blues had announced the signing of a partnership agreement with Next Champion TV at their last Annual General Meeting but the promised investment in the senior squad never materialised.

Sliema are open to the possibility of roping in foreign investors with the aim of improving the club’s financial stability as well as the team’s competitive edge.

Priso on the move

Njongo Priso is expected to travel to Turkey in the coming days to finalise talks over his next move after cancelling his contract with Valletta FC, the current Premier League leaders.

Priso will be meeting his agent in Antalya to discuss his future after three unnamed clubs from Turkey, Kazakhstan and Cyprus declared their interest in signing the Cameroonian winger this month.
