The Cricket Malta Winter League resumed last weekend with Melita playing Marsa at the oval.

Marsa won the toss and elected to bat first, Nowell Khosla and Sam Aquilina scoring 47 runs for the first wicket.

Andrew Naudi (25), David Marks (32) and captain Mark Sacco (26) kept the momentum going throughout the innings as Marsa finished their allotted 25 overs on an impressive total of 168 runs.

For Melita, Zubair Raja (3 for 20) and Paul Bradley (2 for 23) were the major wicket-takers, while Bikram Arora completed two catches and a run-out.

Melita’s chase of 169 started with Garrett Kampff and Arora falling early to the bowling of Marks.

Wickets fell at regular intervals but 2015 Player of the Year, Haroon Majeed, held the innings together in his typical attacking style.

Joy Ghoseroy struck a quick-fire 21 runs before he was well stumped by Aquilina off the bowling of Khosla. Majeed then re-joined Bradley with 13 runs required off the final over.

The decision went to the very last ball of the match and Bradley obliged for Melita, scoring the two runs re-quired for victory.

For Marsa, Andrew Naudi and Marks captured two wickets apiece.

This Saturday sees the resumption of Malta Cricket’s Junior Academy (activities start at 9am), followed by the Winter League clash between Marsa CC and Krishna CC.

Winter League table
(Round One): Melita CC 29, Krishna CC 19, Marsa CC 5.
