We in San Ġwann used to have three buses to Valletta, 32, 22, 225 (15), and one to Sliema, 225.

Now we have one to Valletta, 24, and three to Sliema, 110, 203, 202, with the consequence that the 24 is very full, usually with standing room only by the time it reaches us.

True there is also the 22 to Valletta but that does not run through the main street of San Ġwann so we have to go up to the church, three bus stops away, to catch it.

For the return journey we have the 24 or 22, which means that to reach the main street we either have to walk from the church, from Kappara Hill, or to walk up from Mrabat, a steep hill.

When returning from Floriana, the 24 and 22 are at different bus stops, quite a distance apart. Where is the sense in this?

When at the Ferries in Sliema, to return to San Ġwann we have either the 202, 203 or 110. These three routes provide an hourly service to different bus stops. But surely having them stop at the same bus stop would reduce the waiting time.

The 202 goes to Rabat, servicing a very busy route, so it gets filled in Sliema even before the students and tourists arrive. These three routes should have have buses running at least every 30 minutes.

With each change, we in San Ġwann – such a busy town – seem to be worse off. If a survey were to be taken of the residents I believe we would find out that we are all unhappy, and that we elderly are finding the public transport system too unfriendly for us to use it. Is this really an efficient bus service? Who will speak for us?
