• About 1,500 birds of various breeds are being displayed by 108 exhibitors at the 33rd annual show of the Bird Breeders Association at Mount Carmel Hospital, Attard. The birds were adjudicated by a panel of experts from Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy. The show is open to the public today from 9am to 7pm.

• The Association of Lyceum Past Students (ALPS) will be holding its annual Valentine’s dinner on February 6 at the Radisson Golden Sands Resort at 8 for 8.30pm. Tickets at €35 include a welcome drink, two glasses of wine, half a bottle of water and coffee. One can also opt for one or two nights’ accommodation at special tariffs between February 5 and 7. • The Bank of Valletta Philately Club is holding a meeting at the Fatima Sanctuary Convent, Guardamangia, on Tuesday at 6.15pm. All stamp collectors are welcome. For more information, call 7931 5509.

• A prayer meeting for the sanctification of priests and for priestly and religious vocations will be held on Saturday at 9pm at Burmarrad parish church. Mass will be followed by adoration until 11pm.

• Din l-Art Ħelwa will hold a lecture on ‘Malta’s heritage trees – amazing plant monuments’, to be delivered by Joseph Buhagiar, on January 21 at 6.30pm at the Judge Caruana Curran Hall, 133, Melita Street, Valletta. The lecture was originally meant to be held on January 14. Dr Buhagiar is a lecturer of Biology at the University of Malta and director of the Argotti Botanic Gardens. He will talk about indigenous and exotic trees that are special because of their antiquity, size or rarity. Monumental or heritage trees can be found in our gardens but some are scattered in unexpected locations. The lecture, organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa, will be free and in English.
