On the occasion of a visit to Malta by Francesca del Volgo, an active member of Collettivo Askavusa, Inizjamed is tomorrow organising a spontaneous event about Lampedusa – particularly what we do not see or hear each time the island features the media – at Palazzo Pereira, Republic Street, Valletta between 6 and 8pm.

Collettivo Askavusa is a cultural association founded in 2009, in response to the inauguration of a detention centre concealed in an inland valley of Lampedusa.

Through initiatives such as LampedusaIn Festival, exhibitions, concerts and film projections in Italy and beyond, Collettivo Askavusa seeks to be a source of first-hand information about the real situation on the island and its ongoing militarisation as an outpost of Fortress Europe.

Programme:

• Presentation of Lampedusa and Collettivo Askavusa

•Two short films: eMMMMe, by Lorenzo Sibiriu – short film about

PortoM, a living archive of objects left behind by migrants passing through Lampedusa (11 minutes, with English subtitles); Il 3 ottobre Video inchiesta, by Antonino Maggiore / Liberaespressione (41 min., with English subtitles)

• Adrian Grima, the coordinator of Inizjamed, is having an interview with Ms del Volgo, followed by Q&A discussion.

• Exhibition of objects from PortoM.

Admission is free of charge.
