In his letter about ‘What the Church needs to do’, December 29, John White alleges that I confused the issues of large families and embryo freezing.

The two issues were combined by him in his letter ‘Stay out of Politics’ in an attempt to picture the Pope as a promoter of radical change. The confusion he refers to is therefore of his own making.

I maintain that the two issues are separate and independent. The Pope and the Church need not be implicated since independently of Church teaching, embryo freezing is objectionable because it poses an unnecessary risk to the life and dignity of the human being in its earliest stages of development.

Infertile couples have other alternatives for having children without resorting to embryo freezing. Pro-life movements in Malta including Gift of Life and the Malta Unborn Child Movement have produced ample scientific evidence about this.
