A Costa cruise allows tourists to visit a number of different destinations during a single vacation. Excursions are the best way to discover the most interesting things about each call along the route, taking full advantage of the time available. To make even these experiences special and unique, Costa has called on the services of the most famous couple of travellers in Italy, Syusy Blady and Patrizio Roversi, of television series Turisti per Caso fame.

Turisti per Caso has today grown into a web portal consisting of the largest Italian community of travellers and, for years, has constantly won prestigious awards, including the best tourism site in 2015 from Sole 24 Ore.

A place can be understood better by savouring its cuisine, getting in tune with its art and in its culture, and talking with the locals

Starting in April, Costa guests can choose from a special selection of excursions recommended by the Italian duo. Patrizio and Syusy have chosen up to 200 exclusive excursions from among the more than 2,200 offered by the Italian company every year. They have suggested the most original tours offering fascinating and rather unusual experiences, with a particular focus on nature, culture and gastronomy. Here, they explain how they will be working together with Costa.

What will be your role with Costa?

Patrizio: We will motivate cruise passengers to inter-actively experience the voyage, to go on excursions and to experience them dynamically. We will select tours that, according to us, offer special experiences that are uncommon. From among the more traditional excursions we will choose those that offer important experiences from a specific perspective like eco-sustainability, cultural value, natural wonders and so forth. It won’t be easy, because the nicest part of a trip is its complexity: a place can be understood better by savouring its cuisine, getting in tune with its art and in its culture and talking with the locals… But we’ll try our hardest.

How did you begin your adventure with Turisti per Caso?

Syusy: It all began with a trip to India, in December 1990. Patrizio really didn’t want to go; he was afraid, more than anything else, that he would fall ill during the trip

I gave him a little video camera and convinced him that if he filmed the trip it would be sort of like seeing it from home. What he filmed became a TV report and then a programme. We began everything on TV and then our trips ended up in bookstores, followed by a web portal that today consists of the largest Italian community of tourists and travellers.

What is the relationship between your way of travelling, basically by yourselves, and a Costa cruise?

Patrizio: On a cruise you feel good and enjoy an experience that offers hundreds of interesting situations. The most fascinating aspect is that every morning you wake up in a different place. This gives you the opportunity to take home a large number of great ideas that provide you with lots of food for thought. Just like our trips,a cruise piques the curiosity and enhances the desire to find out more.

Syusy: As someone who has studied people living by the sea, I also like the idea of doing the same with Costa.

Travelling by sea is a must to find out more about the world, because it was by sea that people from the past moved around. And think about coastlines: the place where the history of the people of the Mediterranean was written. It’s the sea that brings people together.

Costa Cruises’ agents in Malta are Orange Travel Group Ltd, while SMS Mondial are the preferred sales partners.
