Three students from San Andrea School, L-Imselliet, who won the 2014-15 edition of the school’s Stephen Hawking Project for Science and Technology, spent five days in Vienna, Austria, accompanied by two of their teachers, visiting science museums, the Albertina Art Gallery and other famous venues in the city.

Francesca Farrugia, Jihene Mallia Grech and Alexandra Mallia won the 15th edition of the competition organised by the school’s Science and Technology Department for Grade 11 students with their investigation into maximising the energy efficiency of photovoltaic panels using solar trackers.

Prof. Stephen Hawking gave the school permission to name the annual project after him in 2000, saying he hoped the students would be encouraged in whatever endeavour they might undertake and understand that despite great physical drawbacks, they can persist in learning, investigating and applying their acquired knowledge.
