Caffe Moak Luxol and Electrofix Hibs earned the right to play in the final of the women’s basketball St James Hospital KO final following comfortable victories in last weekend’s semi-finals over Gżira Athleta and PAVI Depiro, respectively.

Although Luxol were backed to extend their positive run with another victory, more was ex-pected from the Athleta girls in this cup tie.

After Luxol opened an 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, Athleta had their best moment to reduce the gap to a single basket – 18-16.

However, Luxol clicked into gear and at half-time they opened a sizeable lead which paved the way for their eventual victory.

The third quarter was more balanced but Luxol increased the tempo at the start of the last ten-minute session to put the issue beyond doubt and win 67-42.

On Saturday, Hibs met little resistance from Depiro to seal their place in the medal match.

By the end of the first quarter Hibs had already opened a 20-7 lead. And, with Depiro failing to react, the Paola girls continued to dominate and change ends 36-15 ahead.

The third session was a total nightmare for Depiro as, probably for the first time in their history, they failed to pot a single point. Starting the last quarter 52-15 ahead, Hibs went on to win the tie 78-28.

League fixtures: January 9 – 14.45 Depiro vs Hibernians. January 10 – 11.15 Starlites vs Luxol; 14.45 Athleta vs Floriana.
