Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called for efforts to enhance relations between Iran and Malta in various areas including tourism, the Tasmin news agency reported.

The comments were made when the president received Malta's new ambassador to Tehran, Joseph Mangion.

“Iran and Malta can have broader relations in diverse economic, cultural and political fields,” the president said.

He also stressed the need for efforts to let Iranian investors know about the opportunities and potential available in Malta, saying it will stimulate closer ties between Tehran and Valletta.

Mr Mangion said Malta wanted to expand relations with Iran in all fields.
