Sliema completed their commitments for 2015 on a high when they beat Qormi 6-3 in a match played under torrential rain.

The Wanderers started brightly and took the lead on seven minutes when from a corner action, Aidan Friggieri met Gary Muir’s cross and his backheader flew into the net.

But the Blues’ joy was shortlived as four minutes later Qormi were regaled with an equaliser.

Alex Nilsson sped towards the edge of the area and hit a curling shot with the ball slipping between the fingers of goalkeeper Timothy Aquilina and into the net.

Sliema’s woes were further compounded on 25 minutes when Qormi took the lead.

Qormi were awarded a free-kick from which Clifford Gauci’s cross was headed away by Johann Bezzina with the ball bouncing off his team-mate and Noah Ojuola blasted the ball into the net.

Five minutes from the break Benjamin Essel powered clear on the left before sending a low cross towards Michael Mifsud whose shot was deflected by a defender into the path of Rafael Ledesma who volleyed the ball home.

Sliema continued were they left off at the start of the second half and on 56 minutes they regained their lead. Friggieri produced a burst of pace to move past his marker before feeding Alex Muscat who beat Vella with a firm drive.

Sliema added a fourth goal on 63 minutes when Marko Potezica powered his way into the area from the right and his low cross was bundled into his own net by Qormi defender Billy Berntsson.

Goals continue to flow and on 72 minutes Qormi bridged the gap when Nilsson fed Micallef who turned past Clifford Gatt Baldacchino and hammered the ball into the roof of the net.

Sliema made sure of the points three minutes from time when in a swift break Mifsud sped clear of his marker and slid the ball past Vella.

Mifsud struck again a minute later when was at the end of Gary Muir’s run to stab the ball into the net.

Sliema’s Aidan Friggieri was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
