The Medina Restaurant was voted Best Overall Restaurant for the second year running in this year’s edition of The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants Awards.

The awards, which were held at the Intercontinental Arena Conference Centre, celebrated the outstanding achievement of Malta and Gozo’s top survey rated restaurants as voted by diners out who participated in the online survey. Based on popular vote, only 150 restaurants make it for inclusion in the 2016 edition of The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta & Gozo.

The survey, conducted in September, returned a high number of responses, with 1,973 participants who dined out on average twice a week, equivalent to a total of 205,192 dining experiences in a year. This year sees 37 new restaurants making it on the The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta & Gozo, which was also launched on the evening.

Award restaurants were chosen from the highest-rated restaurants, both overall and in the various price categories for Malta and Gozo, taking into account not only the overall rating but also individual food, service and ambience ratings, the number of people rating, value for money, comments and other data from the survey.

Additional awards were given to Ristorante La Vela for best food, oceana for best service, Ta’ Marija Restaurant for Best Maltese Food, Caviar & Bull for best business entertainment, most lively atmostphere and most romantic, iPlace for most children friendly and most mentioned restaurant in the survey, The Blue Elephant for best vegetarian options, Buddhamann for best newcomer, Marvin Gauci for best chef, while Oceana was given The Colin Best Award for the most consistently outstanding Restaurant (in memory of the co-founder of the Restaurant Guide).

Wine awards were given to Tarragon for the people’s choice and wine list of the year, La Mere for the best Maltese wine list, Patrick’s Lounge & Restaurant for best fine wine and the wine experience of the year, Del Borgo for best designed wine list, Pintonino for best assortment and diversity and Caviar & Bull, de Mondion and Palazzo Preca for commended wine lists.

The results of the survey can be found in the 2016 edition of The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta and Gozo, which is available online.
