The Department of Contracts has signed a €22.4 million contract with the Spanish joint venture SJ Kappara K.V. for the construction of a grade separated junction in Kappara.
The contract was signed today by the Director General of the Department of Contracts, Anthony Cachia, on behalf of the government of Malta, and the joint venture’s administrator, Mr Alvaro Bastida Cilleruelo. Present for the ceremony were Minister for Finance, Edward Scicluna, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Joe Mizzi, Transport Malta Chairman, James Piscopo, and representatives of the Spanish joint venture.
Apart from the construction of the grade separated junction itself, the contract provides for the construction of the merging and diverging lanes to connect the overpass with the adjoining roads, traffic management during the construction works, road construction works including underground infrastructure and street furniture works, the shifting of existing services and installation of new services infrastructure, as well as the design and building of other structures.
The work of the busy junction starts early next year.
