The Maltese national squad is currently in Mataro, Spain, undergoing a training camp ahead of next month’s European Championships which will be played in Belgrade.

Malta was drawn in Group B along with hosts Serbia, Croatia and France in the continental championships which will be played between January 10 and 24.

Karl Izzo’s team open their commitments in Belgrade on January 10 when they play France at the Kombank Arena.

In Spain, the national team players are practising in the gym and the pool. Exercises include strength and endurance tests.

On Monday, the national team played a warm-up match against hosts Mataro which Izzo’s team won 13-8.

During the week, they will figure in other friendlies against Sant Andreu and the Spanish national team. The waterpolo contingent will be back home this weekend.

The squad is made up of Edward Aquilina, Alan Borg Cole, John Brownrigg, Nicholas Bugelli, Jordan Camilleri, Steve Camilleri, Aurelien Cousin, Jerome Gabarretta, Nicholas Grixti, Mark Meli, Clint Mercieca, Ben Plumpton, Dino Zammit and Matthew Zammit.
