Twelve teams will be chasing a berth in the Last 16 of the FA Trophy between today and tomorrow but one Premier League side will surely fall by the wayside as champions Hibs take on Mosta this evening.

On a roll after winning four league games in a row, Hibernians are seen as favourites but they know from experience that Mosta are not to be underestimated.

Hibs’ only defeat in the championship this season has been inflicted by Mosta who trounced the champions 4-1 in October.

Sunday’s top-of-the-table league clash with rivals Valletta is unlikely to be far from coach Branko Nisevic’s thoughts as he ponders his team selection for this evening’s cup tie.

With goalkeeper Jurgen Borg suspended for Sunday’s match after his sending-off in the 2-0 derby win over Tarxien, Nisevic is expected to start with Rudy Briffa in goal.

Mosta coach Ivan Zammit may opt to freshen up his team as the Blues have a tough league match against Birkirkara on Saturday.

Struggling St Andrew’s will be striving to gain some respite from their league woes when they face neighbours Swieqi United in today’s opening match. Swieqi beat Ta’ Xbiex 2-1 in the previous round.

Naxxar Lions start their KO campaign tomorrow with a tricky fixture against Division One’s Lija Athletic who edged out Mellieħa in the second round.

Qormi will pit their wits against Gozitan side Għajnsielem who eliminated Dingli Swallows in the second round.

Vittoriosa Stars, of Division One, stand between Sliema Wanderers and a place in the Last 16 of the FA Trophy. The Cottonera outfit knocked out Kerċem Ajax.

Tarxien will be gunning to bounce back from their derby defeat when they face Division One side Żebbuġ Rangers who accounted for Qrendi in the previous round.

Balzan, Birkirkara, Floriana, Pembroke Athleta, Pietà Hotspurs, Għargħur, Melita, Gżira United and St George’s have already booked their place in the fourth round.
