The son of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi will be questioned by a judge investigating the disappearance of a top Shiite cleric while on a visit to Libya in 1978, Lebanese judicial officials say.

Judge Zaher Hamadeh has asked that Hannibal Gaddafi be brought to the Justice Palace to check whether he has information about Imam Moussa al-Sadr. The judge wants to check whether Gaddafi has any information about the fate of al-Sadr and two companions who went missing with him.

Gaddafi, who was three in 1978, was briefly kidnapped by militants in Lebanon before they handed him over to police late on Friday.

Lebanon has blamed Muammar Gaddafi for Mr al-Sadr's disappearance.
