The Jaguar XE is to come with a direct link to the Apple Watch in a raft of technological upgrades for the new model year.

Everyone knows someone who still insists that there’s a point to owning a so-called smart watch, and for that person it’s a good news day.

The XE’s InControl Remote app is now available for the Apple Watch, “making it simpler and more convenient than ever to interact with the vehicle – no matter where you are.”

It will give wearers the ability to lock and unlock the compact Jaguar, check the fuel level and check where it is – although it is not clear how many other organisations will also be able to check or track your location at will.

It is even possible to set the climate control via the app, as well as starting the engine so that the car can warm up before you get into it.

The same functionality is already available via smartphone apps for Android and Apple iOS.
