Karl Curmi, a 10-year-old boy who rescued a baby that fell in the sea; Moas, an organisation which has rescued hundreds of migrants, and Tony Zarb, a trade unionist for over 30 years, were among those honoured with Gieh ir-Repubblika awards.

Young Curmi was hailed a hero when, during the summer, he jumped into the sea in Marsalforn to rescue a 20-month baby that accidentally fell into the sea.
He said this morning that he was surprised by the award…but he woke up early to prepare for it.
