Having retired to the Maltese islands over 20 years ago, I have on just two occasions resorted to requesting help or assistance from a government representative or indeed a Maltese politician. On both occasions, help came from the very same source, Chris Said.

Unfortunately, the help requested could and should have been provided by specific government departments rather than appealing to an MP as a last resort measure.

My latest drama involved nine weeks attempting to renew my driving licence via the Malta office, where I got nowhere.

In the end it was settled within the space of an hour using the Gozo licensing office, thank you very much.

I hope the next Minister for Gozo is Chris Said.
