St Nicholas College, Boys Secondary, Naxxar, has come out with another innovative idea this Christmas. With the help of their school librarian, Aaron Busuttil Linwood, they have built a snowman using cardboard boxes and recycled paper.

The snowman’s hat was made out of a recycled book and its hands from tree branches.

The snowman has a dual purpose: as a decorative item for the festive season and to promote reading through a competition where students are being asked to guess the number of pages in the hat.

Students borrowing books from the library during December receive a guess token for every book loaned. The closest guess will receive €15 worth of books.

Last year the students built a six-foot Christmas Tree out of hundreds of unserviceable and unused textbooks.
