During the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry Executive Meeting in Barcelona last week, the Malta Chamber was presented with an award for its contribution towards cross-Mediterranean business facilitation. The award was conferred to internationalisation executive Lina El-Nahhal by Ascame’s president, Mohamed Choucair, and the president of the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Barcelona, Miquel Valls.

The Malta Chamber has been an active member of this association since 1987. With over 250 members from 23 countries and 30 million companies, Ascame plays a critical role as the facilitator between the business community and the Mediterranean organisations.

The Ascame Executive Meeting was held in conjunction with Medaweek, the 9th Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders, which included a series of forums on key sectors that today present the most opportunities and potential in terms of business exchanges, jobs creation and entrepreneurial openings in the Mediterranean region.

The topics included business development in North Africa, smart cities, the automotive, hospitality and solar sectors, Islamic finance and women entrepreneurship.

Medaweek was organised by Ascame, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Union for the Mediterranean and the European Institute of the Mediterranean, with the support of various other organisations.

Euromed Invest Academy Barcelona was also held during that week, organised by Ascame, Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Organisations of Mediterranean Businesswomen.

The subject of this seminar was trade and investment for a Mediterranean of shared prosperity and involved a series of sessions on EU projects, regional development initiatives, job creation, intellectual property and Enterprise Europe Network, among others.

The main aim of the Euromed Invest project is to boost business and private investments within the Euro-med area to contribute to an inclusive economic development of the region.
