One of the world’s top chefs has given his blessing to cakes which will be sold at the Christmas Fayre to be held at St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Valletta
Michel Roux Snr, of flagship restaurant The Waterside Inn at Bray, has three Michelin stars and a particularly soft spot for the mince pies and brownies prepared by chef David Antell, who travels between the UK and St Julian’s
The young Englishman has had the honour of cooking for M. Roux on many occasions. During a recent stay David served mince pies for tea. The photo shows them both with a depleted tray of the tarts, requested at breakfast the next morning!
Knowing of the forthcoming annual Christmas Fayre raising money for St Paul’s Chaplaincy, which provides pastoral care and support in an increasingly troubled world, M. Roux had no hesitation in giving his stamp of approval, urging everyone to ‘please help to raise some money by buying and eating Dave’s mince pies and all the other delicious products.’ David will now be cooking up a storm!
Other delights on offer from committed cooks on the island are homemade brownies, Madeira-soaked fruitcakes, sausage rolls, jams, chutneys, ginger cake, variations of biscotti and assorted cup cakes and biscuits.
The Fayre takes place at St Paul’s Pro Cathedral on December 12 from 9.30 – 12.30.
