The Malta FA Technical Centre’s Grassroots and Women’s Sector have just hosted the now-established FIFA Live Your Goals Festival at the Centenary Stadium, Ta’ Qali.

The activity is part of the association’s drive to unearth new talent, improve the young players’ level and upgrade the women’s game on our shores.

For this year’s festival, the MFA invited the primary school students from St Claire College. They participated along with 78 girls from the Sacred Heart College Junior School and 100 others representing St Dorothy’s Junior School, Sliema.

All participants were under the guidance of qualified MFA staff, national team players and also club coaches.

“This was the best outing ever,” affirmed one of the young participants, attesting, once again, that the Live Your Goals Festival was a successful event.

The MFA said the initiative had reached its objectives of attracting new faces to the sport, particularly those not affiliated with local clubs while raising awareness that the ‘beautiful game’ can also be practised by girls.

By means of this nationwide FIFA Live Your Goals campaign and free open days adopting the same slogan, the Malta FA is hoping to generate enthusiasm among youngsters between the ages of six and 11 years while also linking the girls to National League clubs in order to increase the numbers in local women’s football competitions.

The campaign is led by the MFA under the auspices of FIFA.

In a statement, the Technical Centre thanked the various entities that contributed with their assistance to make the festival a successful event, along with the coaches and volunteers for their cooperation and enthusiastic participation.

“We thank these people for sharing with us their vision of developing women’s football at grassroots level and we look forward to the next Open Day Festival this season in March,” the Malta FA said.
