Some 250 people this afternoon marched from Castille down Merchant’s Street, through to St John’s Cathedral and up Republic Street, ending up in Parliament Square to rally against abortion.

At the end of the event, which included the participation of Labour MP Godfrey Farrugia and Nationalist MPs Tonio Fenech and Anthony Borg, miracle girl Gianna Jessen, who survived abortion, addressed the crowd.

Ms Jesson urged all those present to fight against the introduction of abortion, but keep forgiveness and Jesus in their heart.

“Stand now and fight now as this evil is at your doorstep and must be fought,” she said.

Life Network chairman Miriam Sciberras urged MPs that any amendments with the Embryo Protection Act could have “disastrous” consequences and would open the door to abortion.

Dr Sciberras said that a county which prided itself on legislating in favour of equality should also ensure that life was safeguarded from conception.

She reiterated the objections against freezing embryos so that gay couples could have children, saying it was only “natural” that same-sex partners could not have their own biological children.

Earlier representatives from a number of organisations including the National Council of Women, Gift of Life which endorsed the activity, also addressed the crowd.

Live music was provided by Gianluca and his band.
