The final commitments for the 2015 racing calendar of the Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club will take place on Sunday, December 13 when they host the annual series of Eurosport Road Races in the locality of Fleur de Lys.
Organised in conjunction with the Birkirkara Local Council and the Kumitat Amministrattiv Fleur de Lys, the races will be held under the auspices of the Malta Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA).
Athletes can choose to take part in two runs – 5kms or 10kms. A five-kilometre walk will also be held on the occasion, Birkirkara SJ said in a statement this week.
All races, which will follow the same route as in previous years, get underway at 8.30am from in front of the Eurosport outlet in Psaila Street.
Charity donation
This year, the club has decided to up the race entry fees by €3, which will be donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund.
In both the 5kms and 10kms races, the first-placed athletes in the men and women’s events will be presented with a €75 Eurosport voucher.
Trophies will also be awarded to the top-three finishers in both categories as well as to the respective age-group section winners.
Applications can be sent by post to Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club, 105, Ganu Street, Birkirkara, or handed in at Eurosport next Saturday between 9am and noon where race numbers will also be distributed to the race participants.
Late entry forms will be accepted up to one hour before the start of the race at an extra cost which will also go to the Community Chest Fund.
