Beatles fan gathered in Mexico City to break a world record for the largest number of people dressed as the British rock group.

Young and old and representing various eras in the band's history, some 294 people donned their mop tops and sergeant pepper regalia.

For the president of the Beatles fan club, the record attempt was a no-brainer.

"Once again, Mexican Beatlemania has been noted at the world level. We have always been known for having great concerts for Paul McCartney. Paul loves being in Mexico because of the people's reaction. Ringo Starr went crazy also when he was here in his concerts. We have more tribute bands to The Beatles in Mexico than in any other country in the world."

Whether the group actually breaks the Guinness World Record remains to be seen.

The paperwork has been sent to the organisation for an official verification
