I was aware that some government MPs resort to the political convenience of toeing the party line even though certain debatable laws could be deemed as going against the dictate of their conscience. But now that Marlene Farrugia has confirmed this, it would be worth recording another impassioned plea for moral sanity to return to Parliament.
With a plethora of highly-technical clinical and moral dissertations in the press and the report by the group coordinated by the Faculty of Theology published as well, our representatives in Parliament now have clear guidelines to follow when legislating. The group included experts in the field of medicine, law, psychology, social politics, family studies, disablement studies, philosophy and theology and its conclusions are not to be ignored or rejected.
This could be the last golden chance for our representatives to stop the further degradation of our well-established moral structure and remain in consonance with the Church-State collaboration and dialogue so promised and augured at the beginning of the year.
