A host of foreign clubs are reportedly showing a strong interest in signing Andrè Schembri next summer as the Malta forward’s contract with Omonia Nicosia expires at the end of this season.

Schembri further enriched his high reputation yesterday after scoring the first goal in sixth-placed Omonia’s 2-2 home draw against Enosis Paralimni.

The 29-year-old struck on 22 minutes, his sixth league goal, to bring Omonia back on level terms after they had fallen behind five minutes earlier.

Clubs in Turkey, Greece and Hungary, where Schembri enjoyed a positive spell with Ferencvaros, have been monitoring the Malta talisman who can sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

Meanwhile, Ethnikos Achnas figured in a goalless home draw with fellow strugglers AEL Limassol in Danilo Doncic’s first match in charge.

The Serbian took over as coach of the Cypriot club last week.
