Steve Camilleri, of Neptunes, and Marsaskala’s Stephen Micallef were named as the 2015 BOV Waterpolo Players of the Year for the Premier Division and First Division respectively while Francesca Paolella, of Sliema, bagged the women’s award.

Camilleri enjoyed a very positive season with Neptunes, winning all three Player of the Month awards.

The Neptunes stalwart scored an impressive 61 goals in 17 matches to establish himself as the league’s leading scorer, an impressive feat given the quality of foreign players vying for the award such as triple Olympic gold medallist Peter Biros and world champion Guillermo Molina.

This is the fifth time that Camilleri has won the Player of the Year Award.

Micallef was a crucial figure in a Marsaskala’s team who beat rivals Marsaxlokk twice in the space of four days to complete a memorable league and knock-out double, netting four goals in the Cup final.

Paolella’s scoring prowess and speed contributed to Sliema’s victory in the Women’s League.

The swimming veteran also captained Sliema to the final of the KO final, where they were beaten by Exiles.

Anthony Scicluna, BOV Chief Officer, and Joe Caruana Curran, the ASA president, presented the awards to the winners during the ASA’s Annual General Meeting.
