Around 600 people raised €7,500 during a 34-hour abseiling marathon in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

The marathon, held at the Mosta bridge, was organised by the Mosta Scout Group, with the collaboration of the Mosta council and RTK.

The sum will be presented during the New Year’s Feast of Generosity, organised by RTK and the Siġġiewi home.

The marathon was inaugurated by Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona, who blessed the participants, while Archbishop Charles Scicluna and Mosta mayor Edwin Vassallo turned up later to meet participants. The home’s director, Fr Martin Micallef, and Mosta Scout Group leader Edward Vella praised the hard work put in by volunteers in the organisation and running of the marathon.

Nationalist MP David Agius abseiled the bridge, while independent MP Marlene Farrugia and her partner, Labour Party Whip Godfrey Farrugia, rode the 100-metre zip line across the valley.

Participants were asked to donate €12 for daytime abseiling and €6 during the night.
