The interview with British High Commissioner Rob Luke (The Sunday Times of Malta, November 22) puts forward the usual line on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Russians are usually wrong about most things but on this they are surely right.
Everyone is killing everyone else in Syria and ‘democracy’ there seems to be just a recipe for civil war. What is left of the Syrian middle class probably supports Assad and should be allowed to vote for him if that stage is ever reached. I lived through the blitz on the edge of London and my late wife lived through the more severe bombing of Germany. We both knew, as the brave Maltese certainly knew, that bombing kills women, children and men, and destroys beautiful buildings, but it does not win wars.
