Having recently returned to our beautiful island, I have not been impressed with the amount of horse faeces on many streets. Twice in one week I was shocked to see a horse and cart being driven in the middle of traffic. How absolutely ridiculous.

Can the government not create some restrictions on the people taking their horses out on the streets of Malta? This should be forbidden for various reasons but primarily for human and horse safety. In addition, these horse owners are obviously not cleaning up after their animals; what must the many tourists think seeing this in Mdina or Valletta?

My aim is to draw attention of local councils to this; not only is the odour very foul, but it looks extremely unpleasant.

Malta certainly doesn’t need this kind of negative publicity; nor does Malta need to be in the news for horses being injured or killed by passing cars.

The councils need to regulate the times, if any, that these horses are allowed on public streets. Please institute a law whereby horses would not be permitted on our streets at rush hour or after dusk.

The important issue here is to make certain that these laws are obeyed. There should be no more traffic accidents involving horses. I urge the local councils to put a halt to this immediately.
