Joy Gospel Singers are teaming up with the Commonwealth Festival Choir & Orchestra for a joint concert today at 7.30pm at St Lawrence Collegiate parish church, Vittoriosa. The 40-strong mixed adult Joy Gospel Singers was founded in 2003 by its music director Michelle Abela and choir coordinator Carmel Abela. Joy Gospel Singers interpret various styles of gospel music and are known for their uplifting style of Christian music.
The Commonwealth Festival Choir arose from a joint venture between three organisations; the Purcell School for Young Musicians, the Harris Academy of Bermondsey and the Kent-based youth choir, the Apollo Youth Choir and is made up of young singers aged seven to 17. The choir will be accompanied by The Commonwealth Festival Orchestra, which is also made up of young musicians.
The concert programme includes gospel-style songs, as well as songs with the theme of world peace and harmony.
Entrance to the concert is free.
