Updated 5.5pm - The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Malta this afternoon, a few minutes before the Queen and Prince Philip. 

It is Prince Charles's first visit to Malta since the 1960s.

Prince Charles was welcomed by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Mrs Muscat and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, who arrived in Malta yesterday.

They arrived on a small private aircraft, with the Duchess struggling to hold an umbrella in the windy, wet conditions.

The prince's first engagement this afternoon was an address at the Commonwealth Business Forum, which is meeting at the Hilton.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, toured the Mdina Glass factory.

They will this evening attend a state reception for the Queen hosted by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

Later, Prince Charles will launch the Prince’s Trust International at the Palace in Valletta.

The highlight of their visit will be the opening of CHOGM with the Queen and Prince Philip tomorrow. 

In the afternoon, Prince Charles will visit the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa to view a photographic exhibition and attend a discussion with young people.

He will then take part in a discussion on climate change at the Golden Sands Hotel.

The Duchess of Cornwall tomorrow late morning will visit Zejtun Primary School and, latar the Capuchin Cemetery in Kalkara where she will lay a wreath and meet war veterans.

The prince and the duchess will tour Mdina on Saturday morning before leaving Malta.
