The General Workers Union has condemned the “intimidation” of its members by Malta Public Transport, after the company issued a notice warning employees of “disciplinary action” if they followed the union’s industrial action directives.

In a statement, the GWU said its directives were legal and legitimate and that it had reported the case to the Industrial Relations Department. The union stressed that workers had a legal right to follow directives issued by their recognised union.

The GWU claimed Malta Public Transport had violated workers’ constitutional rights and called on the company to withdraw its notice within two days, reserving the right to take all action necessary to protect its members’ interests.
