Around 100 people braved the bad weather for a brief glimpse of Queen Elizabeth as she drove into San Anton Palace for an official welcoming ceremony earlier this afternoon.

The small group, including a number of children, waved and cheered as the Queen and Prince Philip passed by, although some, having waited in the rain for an hour for the moment, said they were disappointed the car didn’t slow as it entered to give them a better view.

Many of the onlookers spoke of their love and admiration for the Queen on her latest visit to the island with which she shares a special connection – while others were simply drawn by curiosity.
