Barcelona and Bayern Munich sealed their place in the knock-out stages of the Champions League in emphatic fashion after sweeping past Roma and Olympiakos respectively last night.

At the Nou Camp, Luis Suarez hit a brace and set up a double for a spritely Lionel Messi to score in his first start after injury in a rampant 6-1 victory over Roma.

The win ensured Barca go through to the last 16 in first place in Group E.

They have 13 points from five games, Roma and Bayer Leverkusen both have five and BATE Borisov have four.

Barcelona are in the last 16 for the 12th consecutive season following another blistering attacking display that comes hot on the back of their 4-0 destruction of Real Madrid in La Liga last Saturday.

Gerard Pique and Adriano also scored for Barcelona with Roma striker Edin Dzeko, who had a penalty saved, netting a consolation goal in stoppage time.

Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and BATE Borisov will vie for the runner-up spot in the final round of matches on December 9.

Ten-man Bayern Munich eased into the Last 16 after demolishing Greece’s Olympiakos 4-0 to secure top spot in Group F.The German champions, who had Holger Badstuber sent off early in the second half with a straight red card, were unstoppable in the opening 20 minutes, scoring three times to put the game to bed early.

Douglas Costa struck after eight minutes, Robert Lewan-dowski doubled the lead after 16 minutes with Thomas Mueller adding another four minutes later as dazed Olympiakos found no answer to the continuous attacks.

Kingsley Coman headed in Bayern’s fourth goal in the 70th minute as Bayern moved up to 12 points in the group ahead of their final game at Dinamo Zagreb.

Arsenal kept alive their hopes of reaching the last 16 for a 16th straight season when they beat Dinamo Zagreb 3-0.

Arsenal ripped Dinamo apart in the first half, taking a grip with two goals in four minutes from Mesut Ozil in the 29th and Alexis Sanchez who scored in the 33rd before adding a third in the 69th.

The results mean that Arsenal, whose chances looked slim after defeats by Dinamo, Olympiakos and Bayern, will join them if they beat Olympiakos by two clear goals in Athens on Dec. 9 while the Greeks need just a point to progress.

Chelsea’s fate will go to the final group game after an unconvincing 4-0 win over 10-man Maccabi Tel Aviv earned successive victories for the first time in two months.

Porto’s 2-0 home loss to Dynamo Kiev means progression from Group G is by no means certain for Chelsea, who beat Norwich last Saturday and host Jose Mourinho’s former side in Europe on December 9.

A draw should be enough for the Blues to advance.

Gary Cahill scored from a corner and former Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim was shown a straight red card before half-time for a wild kick at Diego Costa, who had an altercation with Mourinho at the interval.

Costa bust-up

Willian added a free-kick strike – his sixth set-piece goal of the season – Oscar headed in a third and Kurt Zouma a fourth at Haifa’s Sammy Ofer Stadium to put a gloss on the scoreline.

There was plenty for Mourinho to ponder, though, after a bust up with Costa and with John Terry departing on a stretcher with a foot injury.

Mourinho and Costa had a frank exchange as the teams left the field for half-time and Loic Remy was sent out to warm-up.

But Costa completed the game as Chelsea struggled to assert themselves and lost their talismanic skipper to injury.

Olympique Lyon were eliminated from all European competitions when Kalifa Coulibaly’s last-gasp goal gave Ghent a 2-1 win at the Stade de Gerland.

Coulibaly headed home five minutes into injury time after Jordan Ferri’s early opener for Lyon had been cancelled out by Danijel Milicevic in the first half.

Lyon are last in Group H with just one point and cannot now qualify for the Europa League as they lie five points adrift of third-placed Valencia, who lost 2-0 at Zenit St Petersburg.

Ghent are second on seven points.
