Żebbuġ Rangers 0
Lija Athletic 2

An Erjon Beu brace gave Lija three precious points that put them back in the promotion race as they moved up to fourth on 15 points..

Lija fully deserved their victory as they were the better team throughout. They had most of the possession and also created most of the goal-scoring opportunities.

It was Lija who threatened first as after two minutes they were awarded a free-kick and Babic’s curling shot finished just over.

Two minutes later Antoine Borg came close but his shot just missed the bar.

Lija almost took the lead on 17 minutes when Beu’s shot came off the upright and from the rebound Roderick Taliana blasted wide.

On 23 minutes Żebbuġ goalkeeper Justin Spiteri was almost deceived by Beu’s cross-shot with the ball looking to have crossed the goalline but the referee waved play on.

On the restart Lija continued to hold the initiative and they finally struck on 51 minutes when the unmarked Beu slotted the ball home.

On the hour mark, Beu fired just wide.

On 63 minutes a Raime Bakare shot was not blocked by Bonnici but from the rebound Catania shot into the hands of the Lija custodian.

But Lija sealed the points five minutes later when Beu beat Spiteri with a firm header from close in.
