Vittoriosa Stars 1
Gżira United 1

Despite starting without several key players, the likes of striker Raphael Kooh Sohna and playmaker Moises Avila Perez, Gżira still produced a decent match but in the end had to settle for a draw against Vittoriosa.

The Maroons ventured forward early on and a Jonathan Bondin shot was saved by the keeper.

Vittoriosa had a Michael Camilleri overhead kick that went astray. On 35 minutes it was Gżira who created another opening when Jamie Pace’s free-kick was saved by Magri.

However, the Vittoriosa keeper could do nothing two minutes later when defender Clive Spiteri headed into his own net from a Christian Caruana cross.

On resumption, Richard Mercieca’s side tried to get back on level terms. They soon drew level when Miljan Milivojev rose high to head home from a corner.

Vittoriosa could have taken the lead when Camilleri drove his shot wide. Lukic then tried his luck from the distance but Anthony Curmi was equal to the task.

Vittoriosa continued to move forward in search of a winner but Gżira held on to maintain their unbeaten run.

Pietà Hotspurs 1
Mqabba 0

Pietà had to wait until three minutes from time to score the winning goal against relegation-troubled Mqabba who played with 10 players for more than 55 minutes.

The game started on a low-key note but it was Mqabba who threatened first when captain Claudio Calleja won a ball in the opponents’ box but fired just wide.

Mqabba had another good chance but Calleja, who had forced his way past two defenders, shot badly from a few metres out.

Then, on 35 minutes, Scicluna was floored inside the box by David Azzopardi who was sent off. However, from the penalty, Christian Grech failed to find the target.

On resumption, the Hotspurs tried hard to make inroads into the Mqabba half but they lacked cohesion as Mqabba defended strongly to keep their opponents away from their goal.

The Hotspurs looked frustrated but on 87 minutes they finally found a way through. A Dylan Agius cross from the right found John Roland Emeka on the right spot to head past the goalkeeper.
