Brooks Brothers’ spring 2016 women’s collection journeys from New England environs down the East Coast to the Hamptons and beyond.

Whether culling inspiration from the Nantucket summering crowd, with their tailored shirt dresses and woven bucket hats, or Manhattanites getting ready to take a dip in the azure waters of their Caribbean outposts, the collection references notions of eased sophistication and tailored proportions to create a modern wardrobe infused with a youthful, effortless elegance. Bright colours, retro-inspired prints and meticulous tailoring give this spring collection the indelible Zac Posen touch.

“For my first collection with Brooks Brothers, I went back to the DNA of the brand and introduced it to my own design aesthetic by playing with proportions, seam placements and ultra-feminine constructions. Ease and wearability are communicated via lush fabrications and buoyant prints that appeal to women who love the transformative power of fashion but are not ruled by it,” the creative director said.

The looks are cut from featherweight cotton yarn to cater to a woman’s every need: an oversized, boxy top is paired with straight-legged culottes for an informal lunch in town; flared-bottom pantsuits are rendered both in earthy tones for elegant yet comfortable travelling and in buoyant, colourful prints for a fashionable night out.

A comprehensive accessories offering complements the ready-to-wear collection. Handbags are showcased in a focused selection of styles, from clutches and shoulder bags to practical totes; scarves are offered in a wide array of prints; and footwear ranges from chunky-heeled sandals in different heights to sexy, high-heeled Mary-Janes.

The collection is inspired by Posen’s wise traveller’s advice that ‘one’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things’.
