This year’s edition of Malta Comic-Con – now in its seventh year – is moving from its former home in St James Cavalier to the Magazino Hall/Old Power House at the Valletta Waterfront.

The convention, which is organised by Wicked Comics, sees a number of famed, international artists and writers coming together with their Maltese counterparts. With cosplay competitions, new graphic novels launched, a role-playing and table-top area and various other activities for children, teens and even adults, the event has moved away from its previously non-mainstream identity to a diverse audience.

“The decision to relocate the Malta Comic Convention was not an easy one but we felt in order to accommodate the demand and continue to grow a bigger venue was necessary,” Chris Le Galle, co-founder of Wicked Comics, said.

Situated just below the Valletta bastions and adjacent to the Valletta Waterfront, the Magazino Hall and the interconnected Old Power House are as versatile as they are rich in history.

The increased floor space allows for more exhibitors to take part in the highly-anticipated pop culture event. Wicked Comics also have a bigger event programme than previous years with new and interactive activities.

“The versatility of the venue and increased floor space inspires us to be even more creative at the Con than in previous years,” Wicked Comics president Fabio Agius said.

This year’s list of participants includes award-winning comic illustrator and writer Tim Perkins, who has worked for over 30 years on comics as diverse as Transformers, Thundercats, Doctor Who and Judge Dredd.

Greek writer and artist Ilias Kyriazis is also one of the main names on the line-up. Best known for the short story Jared, for Dark Horse Presents, he was nominated for a Lulu award for Best Female Character for his work on Melody for DC/Zuda. Kyriazis has alsocollaborated with comics veteran Scott Lobdel on the mini-series Galaxy Quest: Global Warning and Ghostbusters: Displaced Aggression, besides writing and drawing the graphic novel Falling For Lionheart.

Other names include Sabine Rich, John Freeman, Mike Krome, Heba Rena Yassin, Guillermo Ortego and Sean Azzopardi.

This year’s Malta Comic-Con takes place on December 5 and 6.
