MP Marlene Farrugia this morning lashed away at the Labour Party from which she resigned saying the government is being "hoisted by its own petard:.

Ms Farrugia posted comments on timesofmalta.com's comments board in reaction to a story that the government had amended a clause which sparked her resignation last Tuesday.

She wrote: "The government has inflicted untold damage on itself. I on the other hand, am now free and unencumbered."

In another post she wrote: "PL credibility sank all the way down with the help of apologists. What was bad four years ago became quasi good today. Amateurs!"

Dr Farrugia resigned from the PL after voting with the Opposition on an environment law, saying she was after more transparent governance, “particularly in environmental matters”.

In a Facebook post this morning, Dr Farrugia hit out at the Sadeen Group for promising to build new premises for the Marsascala local council on land that is currently used as a public garden. She was reacting to a story which appeared in Times of Malta today.

She asked was was a new building going to be erected on what is now open land when there are so many empty properties in Marsascala.
