A 12-year-old boy has been reportedly caught by the police behind the wheel of a car in Ħamrun.

This was the second time in just over a week that the police caught a minor driving in the area.

The police confirmed that a minor was caught behind the wheel of a BMW in Mile End Street but could not say whether this was the same boy and whether the vehicle was being driven in a dangerous manner.

Police sources said officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit noticed the young driver in Pieta, but he swerved around and dashed off. The police patrolled the area close to his residence and shortly after saw the boy driving through a "wrong way", according to the sources.

Last week, the police chased after a BMW which was speeding and being driven in a dangerous manner. Upon stopping the car, the police discovered it was being driven by a 12-year-old boy.
