Arsenal will bid to revive their hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout stages for the 16th successive season against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night.

The Croatian side's victory in the first round of matches - their first group stage win in 16 years - was shrouded in controversy when Arijan Ademi failed a drugs test following the contest.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has since repeated his calls for more stringent anti-doping measures in football as his team have stuttered in Group F of European football's elite competition ahead of Tuesday's tie at the Emirates Stadium.

A home defeat of Bayern Munich was sandwiched by losses to Olympiacos and in Germany, leaving the Gunners on the brink of elimination.

"It is a reality that in two games, against Bayern, we took three points (but) we have created our own problems before that," Wenger said.

It was put to Wenger recently that a Champions League exit could aid the Gunners' bid for a first Barclays Premier League title since 2004.

"While those are all good stories, if you ask my deep gut feeling, I want to stay in the Champions League," the Frenchman added.

"We will give absolutely everything to stay in the Champions League.

"I think we still have a strong chance but it will be very tight now.

"Even if we had beaten Bayern, we would be in a position where we have to beat Olympiacos, if we beat Zagreb at home. Unless Olympiacos make a result at Bayern, which is not impossible as well."

There is a place in the Europa League for the third-placed team, although the second-tier competition has created a quandary for many, uncertain whether to treat it seriously.

Chelsea won it in 2013 a year after lifting the Champions League, but many other clubs before and since have made it less of a priority than domestic affairs.

Should Wenger's men advance in the Champions League, then they would be seeking to progress from the last 16 after exiting at the first knockout stage for the last five seasons.

But his focus is solely on beating Dinamo and Olympiacos.

"Let's just try to win our last two games," he said.
