San Lorenzo: Argentine club San Lorenzo have taken a big step towards a return to their old Buenos Aires barrio home Boedoare after a long campaign by fans. The Saints have made an offer to French supermarket giant Carrefour to build on La Plata Avenue where their original Gasometro stadium stood. “Both parties have agreed on the project, so all that remains to be settled is the economic matter to close the accord,” they said.

Taylor: Swansea defender Neil Taylor has been named player of the year at the Asian Football Awards. The awards recognise the achievements of British Asians in English football. Welsh-born Taylor, 26, who has an English father and Indian mother, helped his country reach Euro 2016. Aston Villa’s 17-year-old defender Easah Suliman, who is of Pakistani heritage, won the young player award.

Roma schools: Roma have launched five youth academies in the US – Crossfire Premier, Lonestar SC, Players Development Academy, Real So Cal and St Louis Scott Gallagher – to develop talent for the Serie A club. Roma president James Pallotta said: “We are thrilled to welcome these five elite US clubs to the AS Roma family,” he said. “Our USA Academy programme continues to distinguish itself from what other clubs are doing in the US.”

Villa no.2: Aston Villa boss Remi Garde has put the brakes on any move for Steve Round. Former Manchester United assistant Round held talks with Villa in the summer while Tim Sherwood was still in charge. Garde confirmed he spoke to Round after he was appointed this month but has brought in Reginald Ray as his assistant. Garde is understood to be keen on appointing a coach with experience but it is now unlikely to be Round.

Townsend: Winger Andros Townsend is back in Tottenham’s squad after being dropped for the last two games for disciplinary reasons, manager Mauricio Pochettino said. The England international was involved in an altercation with a fitness coach after the home win over Aston Villa earlier this month but is now under consideration for tomorrow’s derby at home to West Ham.
