A European Union/World Economic Forum transport scoreboard shows Malta as having the best road safety record last year while, predictably, but unsurprisingly it ranks towards the bottom of the list on the quality of the roads.

The share of renewable energy in transport fuels and the number of new cars using alternative fuels were low, the scoreboard shows.

The share of women employed in the transport sector was slightly below the EU average.

Consumers were reported to be very satisfied with air transport in Malta, but less satisfied with urban transport.

“However, satisfaction ratings have risen since the last reporting period.”

The quality of Malta's transport infrastructure got mixed ratings from respondents. Port and air infrastructure were rated positively, but the ratings for the road infrastructure were very low.

The time it takes to import and export goods by sea was found to be close to the EU average.
