A prosecutor in Vienna has turned down a request by Vienna Airport for criminal action to be taken against Markus Kaushofer, former CEO of Malta International Airport for having allegedly  curried favour and obtained unfair advantage through the purchase of a watch from an airport retailer.

The prosecutor ruled that in its opinion there was no wrongdoing.

A second request by Vienna Airport for the Austrian courts to institute criminal proceedings was also rejected.

Vienna Airport is currently facing a lawsuit in New York alleging that it orchestrated a smear campaign to destroy the reputation of one of its key partners.

Klaushofer himself has instituted proceedings against both Malta International Airport and Vienna Airport over his dismissal.
