Gozo consolidated their position at the top of the women’s Division Two with a convincing 4-0 win over title rivals Swieqi United.

With this victory, Gozo have opened a five-point gap on second-placed Swieqi.

The first half was quite balanced until promising youngster Maria Farrugia broke the deadlock six minutes from half-time with a delightful free-kick.

Four minutes later, Gozo doubled their lead when Swieqi’s Stephanie Mamo deflected a cross into her own net.

In the second half, Swieqi had to chase the game but the Gozitans wrapped up their win 14 minutes from time thanks to Joselene Gafa’s solo effort.

Farrugia rounded her fine performance with her second goal for the Gozitans.

Standings: Gozo 18; Swieqi United 13; Sliema Wanderers 12; Ħamrun Spartans 9; Mosta 5; Tarxien Rainbows 4; Kirkop United ‘B’ 0.
