Around 16,000 children and parents are expected to attend the 29 performances from 12 different countries which are being held as part of this year’s ŻiguŻajg.

Running until Sunday, the international arts festival is the only one in Malta which puts children and young people firmly at its centre.

Artists from the UK, Canada and Australia and other Commonwealth countries have teamed up with some of the best Maltese artists to create a programme which this year focuses on diversity and which includes theatre, shadow puppetry, music, circus acts, street parades and dance.

This morning there will be Bill & Bobby at Pjazza Teatru Rjal at 11am, a performance involving dancer Dave Toole, who lost his legs as a child.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Sense.5 will take to the stage, a site-specific dance performance at Splendid, which is being held in collaboration with ZfinMalta starting at 11am.

On Sunday morning there’s the WOMAD concert at Pjazza Teatru Rjal at 11am, with musicians from Jamaica, Ghana, Zanzibar and Colombia. This will be followed by the celebration parade at 12.15. Apart from the WOMAD musicians, the parade will also feature Les Plasticiens Volants, giant flying creatures which fly over the public, creating a world of dreamlike emotions.
